On the authority of Abu Dhar Jundub bin Junadah, and Muadh bin Jabal that the messenger of Allah said :

"Fear Allah where-ever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good one and it will wipe it out, and behave well towards people."

Tirmithi narrated the hadith and said it was fine, and in another version, said ture and fine

For people who may get confused about the term "Fear of Allah" - Taqwa as it is know is the fear of displeasing your beloved Allah by doing things which may displease him.

So it is fear out of love and not fear out of terror

Thanks for posting that, Aku. A lot of people misunderstand that, particularly non muslims. I remember arguing with a brother, before I reverted, that people shouldn't fear God, etc. He quickly cleared that up for me.

yes many thanks akulion - i was take aback by the title - makes more sense now. i agree that people should not fear God, especially when God is all merciful and all just. if God is all just, there should be nothing to fear as it should be quite obvious what would be coming to you (good or bad) - that is all in my humble opinion anyway.

peace and thanks akulion!

Fear of ALLAH is doing what HE likes as much as you can and staying away to what displeases HIM

Salam Alaikum and Peace:

Absolutely, the fear is not of Allah, swt, but the fear of doing wrong and displeasing Him.

Michaela, you're absolutely right, Allah, swt, is so loving and so merciful, and oftentimes we only hear about the wrath and/or punishment. Allah, swt, loves to forgive and if we are sincere in our request for forgiveness and we repent with all sincerety, I have no doubt He will forgive.

Wasalam and peace,

ur welcome :)

The mercy of God is one of his greatest attributes.

In one saying of the Prophet Mohammed(sa) he told us that God ordained it that his mercy shall prevail over his anger.

So never despair in the mercy of Allah :D
