Surah Al-Hijr - Path To Peace

Arabic: بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: With the Name Of Allah (God), the Bestower Of Mercy, the Most Merciful.

[ 15:1 ]

Arabic:الَرَ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْآنٍ مُّبِينٍ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: Alif-Lâm-Râ. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'ân, and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Qur'ân.

[ 15:2 ]

Arabic:رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَوْ كَانُواْ مُسْلِمِينَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: How much will those who disbelieve desire that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allâh's Will in Islâm i.e. Islâmic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise].

Arabic:ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُواْ وَيَتَمَتَّعُواْ وَيُلْهِهِمُ الأَمَلُ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know!

Arabic:وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلاَّ وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it.

[ 15:5 ]

Arabic:مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: No nation can advance its term, nor delay it.

[ 15:6 ]

Arabic:وَقَالُواْ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِي نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: And they say: "O you (Muhammad SAW ) to whom the Dhikr (the Qur'ân) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man.

[ 15:7 ]

Arabic:لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِالْمَلائِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful?"

[ 15:8 ]

Arabic:مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلائِكَةَ إِلاَّ بِالحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُواْ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite!

[ 15:9 ]

Arabic:إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'ân) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)

[ 15:10 ]

Arabic:وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِي شِيَعِ الأَوَّلِينَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: Indeed, We sent (Messengers) before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old.

[ 15:11 ]

Arabic:وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلاَّ كَانُواْ بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِؤُونَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock at him.

[ 15:12 ]

Arabic:كَذَلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter the hearts of the Mujrimûn [criminals, polytheists, and pagans. (because of their mocking at the Messengers)]

[ 15:13 ]

Arabic:لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ الأَوَّلِينَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: They would not believe in it (the Qur'ân), and already the example of (Allâh's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth.

[ 15:14 ]

Arabic:وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ السَّمَاء فَظَلُّواْ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to keep on ascending thereto, (all the day long).

[ 15:15 ]

Arabic:لَقَالُواْ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَارُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ

English Dr. Mohsin Khan: They would surely say (in the evening): "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled (We have not seen any angle or heaven). Nay, we are a people bewitched."
